Lamar Valley presents the best of Yellowstone. Located in the Northeast section of Yellowstone, it is home to nearly all of the creatures of the Park including bison, elk and grizzly bear to name a few. The valley contains a free-flowing river, uncounted springs, ponds, and small streams, a major feature of the central Rocky Mountain chain (the Absaroka Mountains), and rich stands of grasses, forbs, shrubs and trees. The comfortable temperature and still air in evening makes it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the Park. This area along Crystal Creek is a nice mixture of timber and grassland. Elk thistle, geraniums, and other wildflowers grow in a lush covering.

Camera Equipment Used in Photos

These photos were taken with a Nikon D2X and a 70-200mm f2.8 lens. Other full frame cameras such as the Canon EOS 1DS Mark III will work as well. Some professional photographers carry a smaller APS-C DSLR such as a Canon 7D or Nikon D90 as a backup camera. Many of the landscape pictures were taken with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens; this lens is available for most digital cameras including Leica, Pentax, Sony, and Sigma and Olympus.
